What Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich said to Malachi Corley after an incredible mistake

Malachi Corley owes Garrett Wilson a dinner – maybe a few.

Wilson’s two brilliant touchdown catches in the Jets’ 21-13 win over the Texans turned Corley’s epic blunder into an embarrassing afterthought, unlike the low light it initially seemed destined to be.

At the time, however, it let Jets interim coach Jell Ulbrich down.

“Absolutely frustrated to be honest – and angry at the same time,” Ulbrich told reporters. “But what a great opportunity for this child to grow and learn. I promise you that in 10 years, if he’s still in this league, that will never happen again.”

Corley was about to score his first NFL touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter when he shot into the end zone on a reverse streak.

However, Corley tried to speed up his celebration and dropped the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Ulrbrich, who had just earned his first win as Jets coach, shared some of what he told Corley after the game.

“First of all, you can’t do that,” Ulbrich said.

It was just the second offensive touch for the Western Kentucky rookie this season.

“I said we had to score 28 to 30 points,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on Amazon’s postgame show.

“Tonight I count 28. We scored 21 and we had another… erm miss on the goal line, but I’m proud of the way we responded in the second half.”

The 3-6 Jets will take on the Cardinals next Sunday in their attempt to save their season.
