LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Tropicana Las Vegas collapsed Wednesday morning, sending the iconic Strip casino packing with a Vegas-style finale. Now the focus turns to what comes next for the site.

We’re already aware of plans for a nine-acre Major League Baseball stadium on the 35-acre site that will be the future home of the Oakland Athletics. But what is the plan for the remaining land?

Bally’s Corporation has previously said it plans to connect the stadium to a new casino and resort, but little information has been shared publicly so far.

According to Soo Kim, chairman of Bally’s Corporation, the first master plans for the remaining hectares have been submitted.

“We have a plan that extends to 3,000 rooms,” Kim said.

He said construction on the stadium will begin in spring 2025, and renderings for the proposed resort could follow soon after as plans move through Clark County approval processes.

“When we submitted the master schedule at this point, I think it was more schedules,” Kim said. “I don’t know if it’ll be months or something, but it won’t be long.”

Does the resort have a theme?

Yes.

But it’s too early to say what that theme will be.

Sharing the land with a baseball stadium already makes for a presumed sports-themed resort, and Kim did say that “Bally’s World of Sports” is a potential leading theme, but nothing has been decided yet.

Kim said the growth of entertainment districts around sports stadiums in other cities, such as Dallas and Atlanta, continue to grow in popularity and cater to pedestrians. Because the stadium is located on the Las Vegas Strip, that entertainment district is already built in.

Phase 1 of the stadium construction process is expected to be completed in the spring of 2028, just in time for baseball.
