What’s the latest update on Detroit Lions DL Aidan Hutchinson’s injury?

Who could be a player the Lions look at in Hutchinson’s absence?

Most would start looking at the names along the perimeter where Hutchinson plays, but another player to consider is defensive tackle Alim McNeill. The fourth-year defenseman had a great game on Sunday with two sacks and seven total pressures from the interior.

Campbell said McNeill took it personally that he didn’t have his best game in Week 4 against Seattle and came out as a man on a mission against Dallas. With Hutchinson out of the picture for the foreseeable future, the Lions will need performances like McNeill’s Sunday.

“That’s what we expect from Mac every week,” Campbell said. “He’s one of those guys we’re going to lean on. He doesn’t have to be Superman, but we have to get that out of him every week and he has that ability.”

Could the Lions fill the void left by Hutchinson outside the organization?

Lions general manager Brad Holmes is always looking for ways to improve the roster both in the offseason and during the season, Campbell said.

“Is there anyone who might be able to help us? What is it going to cost? Those things are always going to come up,” he said. “Just because that’s there doesn’t mean we’re going to do it.”

According to Campbell, it should fit well. He said they are in no rush to add outside the organization at this time. He believes in the players here now who will be tasked with filling the void, especially along the defensive line.

“It doesn’t mean we don’t look and we don’t evaluate,” he said. “Brad did. That’s his job and he’s good at it. And we’ll take it as it comes. But our eyes are open and we are going to make sure we have what we need here.”

Campbell and Holmes aren’t panicking and the team isn’t panicking. It’s the next man up until they see fit to add from outside the organization.

“I know AG is going to put together a great game plan, like he does every week, and he’s going to use everything he has and the resources we have, and we’ll be ready to go,” Campbell said. “If we find someone, great. If we don’t, these are our guys and the coaches know that.”
