The Fox 8 News in the Morning host said Tuesday was his last day on the air for the rest of the year and he has to have a medical procedure done.

“I thought I had eliminated the opponent in the first round, but I have to get back in. Round two,” said Dawson. “I have the support of the Most High God, so I think everything will be fine.”

Dawson has struggled with oral cancer year-round, even though he hasn’t used tobacco products.

Dawson has been a fixture on Cleveland TV for about five decades.

Before joining WJW in the 1970s, he was a reporter for WNIR radio.

The Kent State graduate was inducted into the Press Club of Cleveland’s Journalism Hall of Fame in 2023.
