The Kansas City Chiefs are used to playing the Cincinnati Bengals later in the regular season, but after Joe Burrow missed last year’s game with a season-ending wrist injury, the NFL didn’t want to take any chances with key players missing this game. So, here we are, in Week 2 with the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Chiefs hosting the Bengals.

Chiefs fans have become accustomed to seeing their team take on the Bengals, as this has become one of the hottest rivalries in the NFL over the past two years. These teams have played in the AFC Championship Game in back-to-back years, with the Bengals winning the first matchup and Kansas City the second.

Because these two teams have played each other in big games, it’s always Jim Nantz and Tony Romo who announce the game. They’re the top favorites for CBS, so when you hear them announce your team’s game, you know it’s one of the best matchups.

The commentators set the tone for the game because they tell us what they see and also get excited (sometimes too excited if it’s Romo) when big things happen. The referees can also set the tone for the game because they can call penalties when they feel they need to. Sometimes we have flag-happy refs and other times we have refs that let the players play.

We all knew this would be the broadcast team to cover this game because it’s always this crew for Chiefs vs. Bengals. Every time these two teams met during the Joe Burrow, it was Nantz, Romo, and Wolfson calling the games. No surprises here.

H3: Chief Referee: Alex Kemp

Kemp has been the head referee since 2014 and officiated the Chiefs’ first game three weeks into that season, a game the Chiefs won.

Last year, Kemp officiated one Chiefs game, which was in Week 4 when they narrowly escaped MetLife Stadium with a win over the Jets. He officiated one Bengals game, which was when Cincinnati hosted the Bills in Week 9.

In other words, the Chiefs and Bengals were 1-0 when Kemp was the referee in their games. Something has to give for this matchup.
