He is a drummer and toured with Maze

Anthony Beverly is a musician in his own right. He started playing drums at age 4, he said in 2023 on The Cheron Moore Extraordinary Drummers Show.

“My mom always told me to get out the pots and pans, grab two butter knives or something and play the drums,” he recalls.

“My dad bought me a Mickey Mouse drum kit and (my mom) said he was setting it up, and I couldn’t wait to play it,” he added.

Beverly began his career as a professional drummer when he was 20, according to his LinkedIn profile, playing with artists including Christopher Williams, Troop and his father’s band, Maze.

He played with his father for about two years, he said in his interview with Cheron Moore, describing that time as a time when he went to “groove school.”

“I knew how to play pocket and all that stuff until I got up on that stage with him,” he said. “And it was like, ‘Okay, I want you to pull that snare drum back, I want you to pull that kick drum back, but don’t waste any time.'”

“So I’m sitting there thinking, ‘What?'” he continued, laughing. “But I understood more the more I played with him.”

Beverly said that when he was on tour with Maze, being Frankie Beverly’s son didn’t give him any special privileges.

“When I was in that drum chair, it was extra warm because he could say different things to me than he could say to other guys,” he told Moore, but added that his father never said “bad things.”

“He’s slowed down as he gets older, but man, this is the hardest work I’ve ever done,” he said.

In 2009 he honored Frankie Beverly with a tribute album

Beverly honored his father’s legacy with a tribute album in 2009 called “Silky Soul Music… An All-Star Tribute to Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly.”

He co-produced the album through Brantera Music Group, a company he founded with his then-wife, entertainment attorney Heather Nelson-Beverly.

According to the Associated Press, the album featured contributions from artists such as Mary J. Blige and Musiq Soulchild, Joe and the Clark Sisters.

“I want to honor my father’s contributions to the industry in the right way,” Beverly told the AP. “Not only is this a successful group of artists, with diverse and distinctive voices, they’re all fans of Frankie Beverly and Maze.”

He has spoken openly about his ‘cool’ relationship with his father

Anthony Beverly reflected on his relationship with his father in his 2023 interview with Moore, explaining that despite his father’s celebrity, he felt they had a “typical father-son relationship.”

“He is who he is, but to me, that’s my dad,” he said. “So like a lot of times we get together and talk about music, and then we usually don’t. It’s really cool. We have a really cool relationship, and the older I get, the better it gets.”

He also told Moore that musically he is “a lot like” his father.

“I have his ears, and I listen to music, and if it’s not good — Oh my God, I just want to cut my ears off. I have his ears, that’s for sure,” he told Moore.

Anthony Beverly’s children have followed in their grandfather’s musical footsteps in various ways

Anthony Beverly has a son, Brandon, and two daughters, Ava and Tiera.

Brandon Beverly, his eldest son, works in music management and previously served as tour manager and personal assistant to Frankie Beverly for two years, according to Brandon’s LinkedIn profile.

Tiera Beverly is an R&B soul singer-songwriter and released the single “Can’t Talk” in 2019.

Anthony Beverly’s youngest artist, Ava Beverly, is a talented singer like her sister Tiera, he told Moore in their interview last year.

“That singing has passed me by,” he said. “But I tell you, my two daughters, they both sing like birds.”

Anthony Beverly was previously married to entertainment attorney Heather Nelson-Beverly and is currently reportedly married to Candy Beverly, who shared photos on Instagram from what appears to be their wedding.
