Who is Trump’s alleged golf course shooter, Ryan Wesley Routh?

The suspected gunman involved in what authorities are calling an attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, according to multiple reports.

Few other details have been released about the suspect who reportedly carried an AK-47-style rifle with a scope on the grounds of Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, but statements from local police do offer some insight into the incident and the possible shooter.

Secret Service agents confronted the would-be gunman and fired at him after spotting a gun barrel sticking out of a nearby fence just one hole away as the former president played a game of cards with real estate developer Steve Witkoff on Sunday afternoon.

Authorities said at a press conference after the incident that he was approximately 100 to 150 yards away from Trump.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office/Handout

A witness told investigators with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office that they then saw a man jump out of the bushes and drive away in a black Nissan. The witness was even able to take a photo of the car, which helped authorities track down the suspect.

The Nissan was eventually pulled over by officers in neighboring Martin County after a license plate reader picked up a report of the vehicle traveling on I-95.

Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder told Local10 News the driver was “relatively calm” and “didn’t show much emotion.”

The alleged gunman who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump on Sunday fled in a black Nissan. He was later captured by police officers in Florida.

During a news conference Sunday afternoon, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said investigators found the AK-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks filled with ceramic tiles and a GoPro camera hanging from a nearby fence.

Bradshaw said the potential shooter was “determined to film what was going on” with the camera on the fence.
