Who will win the 2024 presidential race? Latest from polls

play

Election Day is just around the corner and polls continue to show a close race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump will end the weekend with a rally at Madison Square Garden, which began with comedian Tony Hinchliffe mocking Puerto Rico as a “floating island of trash” and continued with jabs at Democrats and Harris by speakers at the right-wing politician’s event. Meanwhile, Harris stuck to the campaign trail, reaching key swing states as early voting days dwindle and Election Day approaches.

And the race is still close as the candidates enter the final days of their campaign.

Here’s a look at the latest polls and what’s been happening lately at rallies and on the campaign trail.

Who will win the 2024 presidential elections?

The latest polls show Harris leading the election race by the narrowest margin, but when it comes to the popular vote, both candidates are at an impasse.

It remains an exceptionally tight race, with Harris rising only marginally – 46% to 43% – in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from October 16 to 21. The latest USA TODAY/Suffolk University national poll shows Harris with both a narrow lead and a large gender gap.

Women solidly supported Harris, 53% to 36%, while men reflected that with overwhelming support for Trump, 53% to 37%. If these margins hold through Election Day, this would be the largest disparity since a gender gap emerged more than four decades ago in 1980, according to USA TODAY reporting.

In the latest USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll, conducted Oct. 20 to 23, Trump and Harris are nearly tied in a key battleground state, Wisconsin, 48% to 47% among 500 likely voters. The results fall within the poll’s margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

The latest New York Times/Siena College popular vote poll released Friday, October 25, shows Trump and Harris tied at 48% to 48%.

Harris challenges Trump to take a cognitive test

Trump made comments about Harris on Truth Social earlier this month, saying, “She is slow and lethargic in answering even the easiest questions.” She replied that she would do a cognitive test, and that he should do it too.

“This is what he has resorted to, and I think in fact he is becoming more and more unstable and unhinged and has resorted to name-calling because he doesn’t really have a plan for the American people,” Harris told CBS host Norah O’ Donnell while he was on the campaign trail. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he agreed to take an exam and called on Trump to take the same.

At Trump’s rally Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York, speakers and the former president continued to attack Harris, a graduate of Howard University and the University of California Hastings College of Law, and her views with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson who Harris mentioned “low IQ”, in his on-stage remarks.

Trump, who targeted Harris’ intelligence, questioned her racial identity and launched other personal insults in recent months both on and off the campaign trail, said Sunday that she “can’t put two sentences together.”

In her interview on Monday, Harris called Trump “unfit” and noted that people should not listen to her, but to the people who worked with him during his time in the Oval Office.

“Don’t take it from me, listen to the people who know him best,” Harris said. ‘His former chiefs of staff. Most recently, Marine Corps four-star general John Kelly. Listen to two former defense secretaries who worked for him, listen to his national security advisor, listen to his vice president, all of whom, one way or another, said he is unfit to be president again, should never be president again and that he is dangerous.
