Who Won Arizona’s Senate Seat? What to Know Lake, Gallego Race

Yesterday was Election Day in Arizona and voters had the opportunity to gain one seat in the race for the state’s Senate seat.

The seat is currently held by independent Kyrsten Sinema for a six-year term, overlapping with current Senator Mark Kelly. Sinema did not stand for re-election.

On Tuesday, Arizona voters had the chance to elect either Democrat Ruben Gallego, an Iraq War veteran and former congressman, or Republican Kari Lake, a former television news anchor and close ally of Donald Trump.

Gallego ran on a platform of protecting abortion access, housing affordability and Arizona’s water supply. Lake ran on a platform of preventing access to abortion and securing the border.

Here’s a look at who’s currently winning the U.S. Senate elections, including when we might find out who won.

Who will win the US Senate race?

Gallego leads the current polls, but by a smaller margin than some may have thought.

With an estimated 60% of votes counted, Gallego Lake leads by 2.3 percentage points.

When will we know who won?

Votes are still being counted across the country. Although about 60% of votes have been counted, election officials say counting will continue for a few days after the election. State law gives county election officials about two weeks to complete the count.
