The 2024 elections scored key victories in select states, shifting the power of party control in Congress.

Republicans took control of the Senate and the race for control of the House of Representatives continues.

Here are the latest balance of power results:

The 2024 elections will compete for the Senate

Republicans took control of the Senate with victories in Ohio, Florida and Texas.

In Texas, Senator Ted Cruz (R) defeated challenger Colin Allred (D). In Ohio, Bernie Moreno (R) defeated Senator Sherrod Brown (D). In Florida, Rick Scott (R) defeated Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (D).

A total of 34 seats were up for election. This is how the seats have been distributed so far:

For the first time, the Senate will have two Black women, with Senator-elect Lisa Blunt representing Rochester Delaware and Senator-elect Angela Alsobrooks of Maryland.

The 2024 elections will compete for the House of Representatives

Every year during the midterm elections and presidential elections, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs.

As in the Senate, control of the House of Representatives will come down to a handful of tight races.

Before the elections, Republicans had only two seats in the House of Representatives.

This is how the seats have been distributed so far:

It could take days before election results are announced, experts warn.

Some states, such as Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, cannot begin processing absentee and mail-in ballots until Election Day.

Results for the 2020 election won by President Joe Biden took four days, while it took 35 days for it to be announced that George W. Bush had won the White House in 2000.
