Whoopi Goldberg Claims New York Bakery ‘Refused’ to Make Her Birthday Dessert Because of Her ‘Politics’

A sweet moment turned sour.

Whoopi Goldberg has claimed a New York bakery refused to serve her because of her political beliefs – and the 145-year-old eatery has fired back.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” Goldberg and co-hosts Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar and Sara Haines took a moment to celebrate her 69th birthday.

To mark the special occasion, the ladies enjoyed some Charlotte Russe desserts, a New York specialty that the “Ghost” actress said was her mother’s favorite growing up.

But the sweet moment didn’t last long, as Goldberg claimed the bakery, which she preferred not to name, refused to take her order because of her left-wing political views.

The store was identified by Entertainment Weekly as Holtermann’s Bakery on Staten Island, a family-owned business beloved by locals.

“Now I have to tell you that Charlotte Russe has no political affiliations, and the place that made this one refused to make them for me,” Goldberg said during the show, prompting strong reactions from the audience and her co-hosts.

“They said their ovens were broken, all kinds of things,” Goldberg claimed, “but people went and got them anyway, and that’s why I’m not telling you who made them.”

The “Sister Act” star added that her order was not passed not because she is a woman, but rather because “they didn’t like my politics.”

“But that’s okay, because you know what? Listen, this is my mother’s party. Pick this up and celebrate with me and my mom. Thank you everyone for celebrating my birthday today,” she said.

It didn’t take long for the bakery’s owner, Jill Holtermann, to deny Goldberg’s claim, telling Entertainment Weekly that “it wasn’t for political” reasons, but because “we were having problems with our boilers.”

“I told Whoopi, ‘I can’t do it right now,’” she told the outlet. “’We have so many things going on with my boiler,’ because the building is from 1930, so when she called me I had no idea (if we could) be baking everything.”

Holtermann said that when Goldberg ordered the sweet treats for the November 13 episode, the baker “didn’t want to make a commitment that I can’t keep” due to the technical difficulties the bakery was experiencing at the time. .

She confirmed that she ultimately made 50 treats, which were picked up at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, and insisted that the mistake had nothing to do with Goldberg’s politics.

The EGOT winner has never shied away from speaking out against newly elected President Donald Trump, whose name she refuses to say out loud on air.
