Why Andrew Garfield’s flirty performance on ‘Chicken Shop Date’ has the Internet buzzing

CNN

On Friday, Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield finally appeared on Amelia Dimoldenberg’s latest episode of “Chicken Shop Date,” her popular, long-running YouTube interview show set date-style over a meal at a local chicken shop in London.

The pair’s chat comes two years after their very first meet-cute sent the internet into a frenzy, and the result lives up to the hype — in their latest chat, Garfield and Dimoldenberg vacillated between leaning into the interview gimmick and their apparent real chemistry, with lots of giggling thrown in.

“I think we’re… Something’s going on,” Dimoldenberg told Garfield in the clip. “To the point where you’ve been avoiding me for two years because the atmosphere is too much for you.”

Acknowledging that they “had some lovely interactions,” Garfield went on to say that he honestly thinks they could have actually gone on a real date “if they hadn’t been on her show.”

“Take all the practicalities and logic out of it,” he said. “I actually think we might” have had a real date, off camera.

The obvious flow of electricity between Garfield and Dimoldenberg has left the internet hungry for more after footage of several flirty encounters between the two went viral online.

Legend has it that the connection between them began two years ago, when they had a flirty encounter on the red carpet of the 2022 British GQ Men of the Year party, a moment captured on cameras and posted online.

They met again on the January 2023 red carpet for the Golden Globes, where they giggled and flirted, further fueling the internet’s fervor for the possible coupling when Garfield joked that he couldn’t come to her show for a “date” because “I’m afraid of what it could become.”

Dimoldenberg has racked up millions of views on her videos, having interviewed everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to Billie Eilish to Jack Harlow. She is known for her comedic style in which she turns awkward moments into engaging and charming conversations.

The format of the show can be a gimmicky ‘date’, and we guess it makes sense that Garfield would now choose to come on her show while he’s busy promoting his latest film ‘We Live in Time’ .

Still, the actor seems eager to leave room for a perhaps authentic romantic bond with the “Chicken Shop” host.

At the end of Friday’s episode, Garfield said they should treat this “date” interview as just “a practice round.”

“I think we should actually do it again,” Garfield said. “And better.”
