Konate reacted to the win, telling Liverpoolfc.com: “I’m very happy for today because we won 2-0 and we didn’t concede any goals. This is the most important thing for the team. Now we have to be ready for the next big game, which is coming very soon.

“But I think we controlled this race because we worked so hard. People think this race was easy, but it wasn’t, it was difficult because we ran a lot. We work hard together and that was very good for everyone.

“We’re not quite 100 percent because it’s a new manager, we’re starting new things – but I think it’s going to happen very quickly and I’m so happy that I’m 100 percent behind what the manager wants. We have to work for that every day.”

Konate was included in the starting line-up for the match against Brentford, the only change made by head coach Arne Slot.

The defender backed up an impressive second-half performance against Ipswich with a dominant display alongside Virgil van Dijk.

“I’m happy and I have to show what I like to do because I think a lot of people have forgotten what I did last season and the games before that,” said the number 5.
