Will the OU offense, 2.0, be better?

You can say this about OU: it’s never boring. Now of course it’s not all good, but it’s certainly not boring with Brent Venables and Team 130.

It happened on Sunday, but it feels like a lifetime ago when Venables was sacked Seth Littrell as an offensive coordinator and play-caller.

It’s time for SoonerScoop’s Unofficial 40 podcast to break down all the moves. And perhaps most importantly, will it matter?

Is your offense about to make the leap?

Look at this offense and all the injuries at wide receiver. The staggeringly inconsistent play on the offensive line. How is that realistically possible? Kevin Johns And Joe Jon Finley Doing?

Is it time to not necessarily pack it all in for 2024, but maybe time to explore with some of its young guys what OU could have for 2025?

The offensive line was a mess. Honestly, could it be worse if true freshmen were growing and developing with every snap?

The search for the OU offensive coordinator has begun.

Stutsman is strong

The offensive futility has clearly overshadowed what OU has tried to do defensively. And definitely took all the spotlight away from linebacker Danny Stutsman.

He made the choice to return for this final season. Obviously he hasn’t seen this kind of humiliating disappointment happen, but he’s still locked up.

Stutsman has at least five games left, and you know he’s going to drop it all. This defense has not yet withered. Small cracks here and there, but they have held strong. A leader like Stutsman is exactly why.

Recruiting, recruiting, recruiting

Go through the struggles and you start looking at the recruiting class. Venables delivered his message on Tuesday afternoon. Are they being listened to? Who, if anyone, is in danger of being poached? This is all season when it comes to recruiting flips.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from SoonerScoop’s Unofficial 40 podcast.
