Will there be mail on Veterans Day 2024?

Veterans Day, this year on Monday, November 11, is a federal holiday honoring those who have served in the U.S. military. Many shops and businesses will close their doors, and the postal service may also be affected.

Veterans Day has been a holiday since 1918, when both warring sides in World War I reached an armistice. The holiday is distinct from Memorial Day, which honors the lives lost while serving in the military.

Will mail be delivered on Veterans Day?

While this day means that many Americans get time off from work, it may affect your regularly scheduled post. The United States Post Office is closed for the holiday, so Americans were encouraged to plan ahead to get your mail and packages shipped on time.

You can still access your online USPS account. It allows you to schedule package pickup, print shipping labels, and order stamps and other supplies. Anyone who wants to send letters can put them in the regular mailbox for collection on Tuesday.

Although there will be no mail delivery and all post offices will be closed, some delivery services will still be available through FedEx and UPS.

Although FedEx offices are open for normal hours, most shipping services will be unavailable on Monday. That doesn’t include FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Custom Critical, which remain available.

At UPS stores, customers can expect normal operating hours, with traditional pickup and delivery available all day. That includes UPS Forwarding, UPS Domestic Ground, Air and International services, along with UPS Express Critical.

However, please note that UPS’s SurePost and Mail Innovations will be delayed by one day due to Veterans Day.

All government agencies considered non-essential will also be closed for the holiday. All federal employees also get the day off.

Likewise, most banks will be closed, including JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. However, customers can still access their money through ATMs.

The New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq and the Federal Reserve are also all closed for the holidays.

While some mom-and-pop stores and restaurants may close for the holidays, top stores like Target, Walmart and Kroger will remain open for regular hours. If in doubt, call the store or restaurant in question before going there.

Some schools remain open during Veterans Day, but the specific schedule may differ depending on where you go. It will vary by local neighborhood.

Why is Veterans Day celebrated on November 11?

Veterans Day has been a holiday since 1918, when both warring sides in World War I reached an armistice. The holiday is distinct from Memorial Day, which honors the lives lost while serving in the military.

The holiday was originally called Armistice Day and is intended to commemorate the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. This was the official time that both sides in World War I agreed to an armistice.

In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower changed the name from Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

Why do we celebrate Veterans Day?

Veterans Day is a way to celebrate all Americans who serve in the U.S. military.

Although it has been 70 years since Armistice Day turned into Veterans Day, it is meant to commemorate the pride and sacrifice that members of the military make day in and day out.

Because it is designated as a federal holiday, many government offices and schools will close, in addition to regular mail from the U.S. Post Office.
