A storm in late November will bring a variety of consequences, including severe weather, accumulating snow, high winds and the first real winter temperatures this season, which could jeopardize travel early in Thanksgiving week.

The storm is forecast to develop from the Rockies early next week and move north into the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It will bring some heavy rain and the chance of the first snow of the season on the western flanks of the storm.

Colder air behind the storm will move into the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley, where temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.

Some frost is even possible along the Gulf Coast.

Meanwhile, the storm will intensify as it barrels across the Great Lakes Wednesday through Thursday, creating a widespread high wind threat across the Great Lakes and the eastern U.S.

As the storm center drifts toward the mid-Atlantic and northeast through the end of the week, strong winds are expected to blow over Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario and the potential for heavy snow over western Michigan and the Upper Peninsula will bring. as well as western New York.

Snowfall is possible through the end of the week over the weekend in parts of the interior Ohio Valley, northern Mid-Atlantic, and inland Northeast, although significant uncertainty remains regarding the amount of cold air which is available for snowfall.

Rain or snow, bad weather early into the weekend in the Northeast has the potential to disrupt air and road traffic just as the Thanksgiving travel week gets underway.

Beyond that, temperatures are expected to drop across much of the Northern Plains and Northeast Quadrant of the U.S. by the weekend, bringing a wintry feel to the start of the holiday week.
