Winter weather advisory for Chippewa, Mackinac counties with up to 8 inches of snow

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY is in effect until Tuesday at 7 a.m. EST for Central Chippewa, Eastern Mackinac, Southeast Chippewa, Western Chippewa and Western Mackinac counties. Snow is expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 6 inches, with locally higher amounts of around 8 inches, are possible. The worst conditions are likely to occur between 5pm and 10pm on Monday evening.

Today we kick off the week of Thanksgiving with snow chances in the forecast. Cooler temperatures are expected this week with an active weather pattern returning to the Great Lakes State. We have a chance of snow almost every day – and we could see it on Thanksgiving!

MONDAY (NOV 25): After lake effect showers end Sunday, another system arrives from the west. Classic large plains, low pressure sweeps through the lakes. Further complicated predictions… what exactly we will see will depend on the exact track of the low temperatures and the temperatures at the time the system passes through. But this is what we think. Colder temperatures (just cool enough) in the EUP will mean mainly mix/snow showers for most of the day, while most of what we see in the NL will be scattered rain showers with the chance of some mix/flakes mixing on some places, mainly near the bridge and at higher altitudes. Temperatures will range from 31-45F. The snow we get will be a dense, wet mess with temperatures above freezing pretty much everywhere.

TUESDAY (NOV 26): Mostly cloudy/cloudy conditions will persist, with the system moving out late Monday through Tuesday. Temperatures above freezing near the ground will result in a mix of rain/mix/snow combination lake effect showers for some during the day. Nothing widespread, but you’ll dodge in and out of some messy showers from time to time. Temps range from 35-42F.

LONGER RANGE FORECAST: A dry spell with still cloudy skies for Wednesday and Thanksgiving. There is certainly a chance of some showers or light snow showers on both days, but nothing significant at the moment. Then, a passing system to the south will lead to a blast of cold air from the NW, kicking off the first definitive lake effect snow event of the season. We’ll keep an eye on it, but next weekend looks cold and snowy for many in the N-NW snow belt regions.
