At least 95 people have died in the deadliest floods to hit Spain in three decades, after heavy rains lashed the eastern region of Valencia, sweeping away bridges and buildings, local authorities said on Wednesday.

Meteorologists said on Tuesday that a year’s worth of rain fell in parts of Valencia in eight hours, causing buildups on highways and flooding farmlands in a region that produces two-thirds of the citrus fruits grown in Spain, a leading global exporter.
