‘Woman Of The Hour’ dethroned in Netflix’s Top 10 list by new horror film

Anna Kendrick’s excellent directorial debut, Woman of the Hour, has been at the top of Netflix’s top 10 list for a while now, but has just been dethroned by something more in the spirit of Halloween, a new horror film called Don’t Move.

I’d never heard of it before, it doesn’t star anyone that I’ve heard of, but it immediately debuted at No. 1 on the service, indicating that there’s a lot of interest in the new 90-minute murder-based feature film. The first thing I do when I see something like this come out is check to see if it’s any good, and a 72% on Rotten Tomatoes is solid, though certainly well outside the top 10 horror films of the year list. An initial audience score of 51% isn’t the best, although that’s only a few dozen reviews so far. Here’s the somewhat interesting premise of the movie:

“When a killer injects her with a paralyzing drug, a woman must run, fight and hide before her body shuts down completely.”

While not exactly the same, this reminds me a bit of the surprisingly good Megan Fox thriller Till Death, where she has to escape murder while handcuffed to her dead husband and dragging him around. It has a critic score of 90% and an audience score of 54%. Sorry, audience, you were wrong about that.

Don’t Move is co-directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, with this appearing to be the standout feature. However, it is produced by horror legend Sam Raimi. When I look at the cast I take it back. I know the star Kelsey Asbille, Monica Dutton in Yellowstone, although I didn’t recognize her name. It also stars horror veteran Finn Wittrock, who appeared in 31 episodes of American Horror Story alongside Ratched.

Honestly, 72% is probably enough to make me want to watch it because it at least sounds like a good concept. I also have to watch Woman of the Hour. The rest of the list is mostly made up of usual kids movies like Kung Fu Panda 4, Sing, Pets and Pixels. Super Mario Bros. has been removed from the list! That almost never happened!

We’ll see if Don’t Move draws enough of an audience to stay at the top for a while, but given how spooky the season is, this might just be the vibe people are looking for. I miss when Netflix made a bunch of Fear Street movies around this time, we need more.
