Women’s hockey returns to Hockey East Play UNH on Friday night and Maine on Sunday

BURLINTON, Vt. – With the Catamounts final non-conference home game in the rearview mirror, Vermont prepares to return to Hockey East, hosting the New Hampshire Wildcats on Friday (Nov. 22) in the second game of a three-game homestand. Friday’s competition features the Can for Coffee Food Drive teams, presented by Keurig Dr Pepper. Fans who donate cans of food will receive a box of Keurig K-Cup Pods and a chance to win a free brewer! Puck drop is scheduled for 6:00 PM and will air live on ESPN+ with Rob Ryan on the call.

On Sunday (Nov. 24), Vermont will take on the Maine Black Bears from Gutterson Fieldhouse at 2 p.m. in the team’s annual Youth Day presented by Healthy Living. Before the game, at 1pm in the indoor track, there will be a plethora of fun activities for the youth, including a bouncy castle, face painters, lawn games and Healthy Living Bag giveaways! Sunday’s Puck Drop is scheduled for 2:00 PM and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Rob Ryan on the call.

VERMONT OUTLOOK

  • The Catamounts wrap up their season series with the Wildcats after splitting the first two games with UNH on the road on Oct. 25 and 26. Vermont emerged victorious in the first game 4-3, seeing goals from Ashley Kokavec, Evelyne Blais-Savoie, Rose-Marie BrochuAnd Grace Nelles. UVM earned one conference point in the next game, falling 3-2 in overtime. Blais-Savoie and Hailey Eikos each found the back of the net in that second match.
  • Vermont will also look to close out its season series at the Black Bears on Sunday (Nov. 24), after splitting its first two games with Maine on the road on Nov. 1 and 2. Despite dropping the first game to Maine, the Catamounts bounced back to secure a 2-1 win during the second game thanks to a two-goal performance from Nelles and a total of sixteen saves from Jane Gervais.
  • Vermont is on a five-game unbeaten streak against UNH when playing at Gutterson Fieldhouse, going 4-0-1.
  • In the last five games, Vermont has a 1-2-2 record. In those five games, the Catamounts have allowed just five total goals.
  • Gervais leads every goalie in Hockey East in total saves, with 296 saves to date.
  • The Catamounts dominated in the faceoff circle early in the season, ranking 8th in the Nation in faceoff winning percentage with a 55.1% success rate, good for second in Hockey East. Blais-Savoie is leading the way in these wins for UVM, individually ranking 8th in the Nation and first in Hockey East with a total of 179 wins on the campaign.
  • Kokavec has six points with two goals and four assists so far this season, which ranks him fifth among blue liners in Hockey East.
  • Lara Beecher leads the team in points and has earned eight so far with three goals and five assists, and ranks 22nd in Hockey East.
  • Gervais’ two shutouts this season rank third in Hockey East and 13th nationwide.
  • Blais-Savoie’s four goals to date lead the team in that department, tied for 18th in Hockey East.

EXPLORING THE WILDCATS

  • UNH is 8-5-1 overall on the campaign and 5-5-0 in Hockey East Play.
  • The Wildcats are 4-1 in their last five games, defeated Northeastern 2-0, split a weekend series with Providence earning a 7-3 victory on Nov. 8, and defeated Holy Cross in their most recent weekend series.
  • Wildcat goaltender Sedona Blair has the most shutouts of any goaltender in Hockey East (3). As a team, New Hampshire has four shutouts, good for first in the conference.
  • New Hampshire has the second-most power play goals in Hockey East (7).
  • UNH is led by senior forward Shea Verrier, who has posted a team-high 10 points on a team-high five goals and five assists.

EXPLORING THE BLACK BEARS

  • Maine is 2-12-0 overall on the campaign and 2-8-0 in Hockey East Play
  • The Black Bears are 0-5 in their last five games and have been outscored 14-4 in those five games. Maine’s most recent victory came when they defeated the Catamounts 5-1 on home ice on November 1.
  • Maine has the fourth-highest penalty kill rate in Hockey East, successfully killing 86.5% of the power plays faced.
  • The Black Bears are led by senior forward Alyssa Wruble, who has recorded five points on a team-high four goals and one assist. Maine also relies on Lily Fetch and Stephanie Jacob, who also have five points each this season.
  • Maine comes to Burlington, Vt. riding a two-game win streak over Vermont when playing at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
