World Series 2024: Dodgers-Yankees tickets are among the most expensive ever

A World Series featuring two glamor franchises from Major League Baseball appears to be the most expensive in recent history.

Fans can spend more than $1,514 to watch the Yankees and Dodgers — and not even get a seat. That’s the lowest price on TickPick for a standing-room-only ticket for Monday’s Game 3 at Yankee Stadium.

As of Wednesday, the average ticket price to attend Friday’s Game 1 at Dodger Stadium was $1,731 on SeatGeek, $1,703 on TickPick and $1,682 on Vivid Seats. That makes the 2024 World Series the most expensive ever, according to TickPick.

The cheapest Game 1 tickets TickPick sold as of Wednesday were a set of six seats down in left field, for $951 each. That’s more than double the lowest-priced Game 1 ticket sold for any of the previous five World Series, according to what TickPick head of content Kyle Zorn tweeted Wednesday morning.

This World Series is on track to be the best-selling in StubHub’s 24-year history, the company said. As of Tuesday morning, StubHub’s sales revenues had already exceeded the final sales revenues of last year’s Diamondbacks-Rangers World Series, even though Friday’s opening game still had more than 72 hours to go.

“That is completely unheard of,” StubHub spokesperson Adam Budelli told Yahoo Sports.

Rising resale ticket prices reflect the allure of a Dodgers-Yankees Fall Classic. These two major market players have combined for 63 World Series appearances and 34 championships, including 27 with the Yankees and seven with the Dodgers.

Also impressive is the star power that both the Dodgers and Yankees pride themselves on. With Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, the teams have a combined five former MVPs in the league, a World Series record according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

“It’s kind of a perfect storm to generate record numbers on TV, and those are certainly record numbers from a ticket sales perspective,” Budelli said.

Ticket demand is particularly impressive when you consider that 56,000-seat Dodger Stadium is the second-highest venue for baseball and 46,537-seat Yankee Stadium is sixth. Boost has come from Ohtani-crazy Japan, which Budelli says has bought the most tickets of any country other than the US.

When asked if Dodgers-Yankees is the most compelling possible World Series matchup, Budelli said he thinks so for TV ratings. From a ticket demand perspective, he wondered whether a Subway Series between the Yankees and Mets might have been even more lucrative.

Budelli said: “To have both fans within metro-taxi walking distance of both stadiums, that would have been very interesting to follow.”
