WWE Releases Two Fan-Favorite Superstars: Report

According to Fightful Select, WWE has released superstars Indi Hartwell and Tegan Nox from the company. They leave together with former Money in the Bank winner Baron Corbin.

“The claim within WWE is that the three departures – Indi Hartwell, Tegan Nox and Baron Corbin – are the only ones leaving in this round,” Sean Ross Sapp said on X.

Sapp later confirmed that these were releases from WWE and that both Hartwell and Nox would become free agents within 90 days.

Hartwell, real name Samantha De Martin, began her professional wrestling career in 2016 with promotions such as Shimmer, Riot City Wrestling and World Series Wrestling. She joined WWE in 2019 when her ring name was changed to Indi Hartwell.

Hartwell made her television debut on January 15, 2020 on NXT in a Number One Contender Battle Royal for the NXT Women’s Championship. Six months later she would win her first televised competition.

Hartwell would soon join forces with Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae and Austin Theory to form a stable called The Way. Alongside LeRae, Hartwell would eventually win the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship.

In one of Hartwell’s most memorable storylines, she dated fellow superstar Dexter Lumis, a pair of fans called InDex, which eventually resulted in a wedding between the characters.

Hartwell also won the NXT Women’s Championship at Stand & Deliver on April 1, 2023. She relinquished the title when she was drafted to Raw.

Tegan Nox, born Steffanie Newell, started wrestling professionally in 2013 in a one-off appearance on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. She would spend the next four years with promotions such as Shimmer Women Athletes, What Culture Pro Wrestling and World Wonder Ring Stardom.

In 2017, Nox signed with WWE, but was unable to compete in the 2017 Mae Young Classic due to an ACL tear. Unfortunately, this would become a theme during her time with WWE.

Nox competed in the 2018 Mae Young Classic, but was injured in the quarterfinals of a match against Rhea Ripley. She would make her television return in 2019 and have a prominent run, but it would be cut short by another torn ACL.

Nox returned to NXT in July 2021 and quickly moved up to the main roster, but was released in November. She was returned to WWE in 2022 and joined Raw in 2023, where she teamed up with Natalya in a tag team.

Both Hartwell and Nox are immensely talented wrestlers who will certainly find a place in another promotion if they continue to pursue professional wrestling.
