‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Part 2 Episode 2 Recap

Yellowstone‘s latest episode is called ‘The Apocalypse of Change’. If you ask me, this week’s title is a bit redundant. What kind of apocalypse comes without change? Even a beautiful apocalypse that rains spaghetti and meatballs is still very different from yesterday’s weather. Unfortunately, I would still say that one apocalypse of change is exactly what happened Yellowstone fans last week.

A nearly two-year feud between creator Taylor Sheridan and lead actor Kevin Costner resulted in Costner’s surprising departure. Sheridan killed off his character, the patriarch of the Dutton family, John Dutton, in the first five minutes of the film Yellowstone‘s mid-season return. Longtime fans were in disbelief. (Really.) Instead of suffering a heroic death in battle with his enemies, John Dutton is murdered in his bathroom (off-screen!) by nameless assassins. I couldn’t imagine a more disrespectful death. Okay, I can do that. They could have killed him in the toilet.

For anyone who has held on for another episode, there’s no point in complaining anymore. This is the Yellowstone we have now. All of John’s children are still alive – and yes, I have invested in their future. Paramount certainly hopes we still feel that way. There are multiple spinoffs and even a potential sixth season on the table if someone succeeds Costner and leads the Dutton ranch into the future.

My money is on Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). I wouldn’t take the bet on Vegas, but he’s the most heroic character in the series. Even a strong character like Beth (Kelly Reilly) fell into his arms in the last episode. In this week’s episode, the show begins before John’s death. In Texas, Rip rescues Teeter (Jennifer Landon) from a den full of rattlesnakes. “This is suffering and survival,” he says. Rip is the last cowboy left.

Give Rip the ranch!

Just call him Rip Dutton

Beth drives to meet her husband at the 666 Ranch. She reminds him that this is the first time they have been together anywhere outside of Montana. Rip replies that it is the first time he has ever left Montana. “Imagine what we could do if we weren’t tied to that ranch,” she says. The line transitions into the meta area on the part of the actors: If we didn’t have to return for season 5, we could have left Yellowstone and been in movies! “I chose to be chained to that ranch,” Rip answers. “I have no interest in traveling.” If so keys to pass on, I think Rip Wheeler’s names are already engraved on them.

Back in the present, Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) laments John’s death. “I assume Kayce is taking care of everything now?” he asks Rip. “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Rip answers quickly. Both cowboys spent their entire lives on the Dutton Ranch. Rip also tells Carter (Finn Little) that he will “always have a place here” that he can call home. It’s like he’s putting together his own cast.

Kayce’s investigation starts with some phone app management.

Isn’t the Ranch going to Tate?

Kayce (Luke Grimes) returns home and hugs his family. He tells Tate (Brecken Merrill) that he is John Dutton’s legacy: “If that’s something you feel compelled to continue.” Tate says he always wanted to work on the ranch, but isn’t sure he’ll be able to run one. “Running it killed him,” Tate says. Then Kayce gives his son – and the audience – some advice on how to move forward: “You can remember how you lived, or you can remember how you died. Your heart can’t focus on both.”

Jamie seems beyond redemption.

Beth vs. Jamie

Beth visits Jamie (Wes Bentley) at his office. She slaps him repeatedly as he stares at the ground. “Why can’t you look at me, Jamie?” she asks. “We both know why.” She promises that the next time they see each other will be the last time: “I’ll be the last thing your rotten eyes will ever see, and I’ll smile.” says Beth. She then attacks Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri) outside and leaves. She calls Kayce and tells him Jamie isn’t even looking at her. “You know who can look me in the eye?” she continues. “That damned viper that lies in his bed every night.”

I was interested in the scene Yellowstone teased last week where Kayce would question his brother, but the show cut straight to the chase this week and sent Beth instead. So Kayce calls in a new character dressed all in black. “Do you have a problem?” the man answers. “I’m going to text you an app that you can download. Transfer your contacts and call me from there. This week’s exciting home screen management for mobile phones Yellowstone. When Monica asks Kayce if he’s okay, he replies, “Yeah, I just have to download something for work.” He sends Kayce some clues from Houston.

However, there is no point in attacking these hired killers. They just did what they were paid to do. Jamie and Sarah are to blame, especially since Jamie plans to change John’s will. He is literally in bed with Market Equities. He also plans to run for governor in the special election. Jamie may feel guilty, but he reaps the rewards. “Kings don’t wallow,” Sarah tells him. ‘The king enjoys the bounty of their conquests. So: party.” He’s just a horny, adopted, sad little man.

Summer is back.

Oh yes, summer is here too

Remember Summer (Piper Perabo)? She is the activist who locked John Dutton in his house under house arrest and then slept with him throughout seasons 4 and 5. Now it’s time for her to leave too. Beth tells her to basically fuck off, and that’s that. Rip is a little nicer. He takes her to the airport.

“150 years ago, John Deere made cars,” he tells her. “They were smart enough to know that when the engine was invented, horses were done pulling people. So they started making tractors. They still do. They kept up with the changes. I guess we just should do the same.” .” Go with the changes, Yellowstone fans…the apocalypse of changes.
