With Sunday’s loss to the Chargers, the Bengals dropped to 4-7 on the year, with six of the losses coming on one possession.

That’s bothering Cincinnati head coach Zac Taylor, who said in his postgame news conference that he can’t explain the way some of these losses went.

‘I wish I could. It’s a team we believe in, a team that believes in each other,” Taylor said. “It’s sickening how these games end and how we feel leaving the field every week – the feeling I have when I have to talk to the team in the locker room after these endings this year.

“What I keep saying to the team is that this has to help us at some point. At some point we’ve got to find some momentum, and we’ve got to start running, and we’ve got to put ourselves in a position where we’re going to reflect… We’ve just got to find a way to finish. I keep saying that and it’s clear that every time I say it, we’re a game away. But I still have confidence that we can get this done.”

Taylor added that he doesn’t think the club needs to make any major changes because “we can see it coming down to one play in every single match.”

“We believe in what we do,” Taylor said. “And so, again, we’re not going to be those people that are just panicking because the record is 4-7 and we’re starting to make all these important changes. That’s not the answer. We played good football. We are a good football team. We believe in our boys. We have good systems. And again, we will persevere, support each other and find a way to make this happen. And if we can pull it off, it’s going to be a damn good season.

“Again, it is not – as of yet – what we would have written for ourselves, but I tell you, I stand here today with complete confidence that we can still do this in the second half of our schedule.”

But at 4-7 and with a bevy of competitive teams in the AFC, do the Bengals have a realistic shot at the postseason?

“Yes, I’m not just saying it to convince others,” Taylor said. “I mean, I say what I believe now. When you see this team compete, the guys we have, the coaches we have – I enjoy going to work every day. It’s not something you’re afraid of at age 4-7 and you don’t want to be around these people. It’s the opposite because I see that there can still be something special. And again, people may not believe it – and that’s okay. I understand that.

“But I’ve seen this group do some really good things, and I still believe we can turn this around and do that.”

The Bengals have a bye in Week 12 before facing the Steelers at home in Week 13.
