Zach Bryan and Brianna LaPaglia breakup and abuse allegations, explained

Topline

Brianna LaPaglia, podcast host and ex-girlfriend of country music star Zach Bryan, alleged that the musician subjected her to “emotional abuse” and offered her a $12 million non-disclosure agreement not to talk about their relationship or breakup. rejected (Bryan did not immediately respond to the abuse allegations).

Key facts

Brianna LaPaglia, aka Brianna Chickenfry, said on the Barstool Sports-owned “BFFs Podcast,” which she co-hosts with Barstool owner Dave Portnoy, that she turned down the NDA because she didn’t want “money from the guy who literally f*cking destroyed me and destroyed me for a year,” Bryan claims, also asking previous girlfriends to sign non-disclosure agreements.

LaPaglia said the year she dated Bryan, before they announced their split on Oct. 22, was the hardest of her life and that she is “still scared of him, my brain has been rewired.”

She alleged several instances of what she called emotional abuse, at one point holding up her phone and saying he had slammed it against a wall, causing it to crack.

LaPaglia said Bryan invited her on a road trip shortly after they met at his concert, after which she said she was the victim of “love bombing,” stating that Bryan got a tattoo of her on his arm after he had only met for a few days.

She said she was the victim of a cycle of Bryan yelling at her and then apologizing, claiming he was looking for excuses to mistreat her, and described an instance in which Bryan allegedly yelled insults at her friends and family and glass had broken during her birthday party.

LaPaglia alleged that Bryan had tried to control her personal and professional life and social media presence, claiming he unfollowed her and saying he “doesn’t want to date someone who presents themselves that way” after she posted photos on Instagram had shared her dress at the Golden Globe Awards in January.

What did Bryan say about the breakup?

Bryan has not responded to the various allegations of emotional abuse that LaPaglia detailed on her podcast (Forbes has reached out to Bryan’s management for comment). After their breakup last month, Bryan posted an Instagram Story confirming their split, saying, “I respect and love her with every ounce of my heart.” He said he “personally had an incredibly difficult year and was struggling through some pretty serious things. I thought it would be beneficial for both of us to go our separate ways,” urging people to respect their privacy. Bryan’s post came shortly after LaPaglia addressed their breakup in her own Instagram Story post, saying she felt “blindsided” and would be taking a break from social media. Without directly addressing LaPaglia’s comments on her “BFFs Podcast,” Bryan has made several social media posts since the podcast aired, including sharing a photo of Jack Kerouac on his Instagram Story, which included a caption from his novel ‘On the Road’: “I didn’t know what to say. I felt like crying, God damn it, everyone in the world wants an explanation for your actions and for your entire being. Bryan also released a song Thursday night called “High Road,” with lyrics that address a failed relationship: “She’ll probably come back and haunt you forever/There’s ghosts in the windows and walls/I’m by the phone all the time waited. cking night/For someone who will never call,” Bryan sings.

What’s behind Dave Portnoy’s beef with Zach Bryan?

Portnoy and “BFFs Podcast” co-host Josh Richards released a diss track Tuesday aimed at Bryan, “Smallest Man,” following his split from LaPaglia, with lyrics labeling him a “liar” and for allegedly immediately joined dating apps after the split. ‘You’re lost. / It’s about to get bloody / Post it to your Instagram Story,” they sing. The song was later removed from Spotify, which Portnoy said was because Warner Music Group represented both Richards and Bryan and claimed the label was behind the removal. “I will write 10,000 diss tracks, I will die in the booth,” Portnoy said in a video on social media, deciding to continue the feud.
