Caitlin Clark breaks WNBA three-point record in Indiana win over Connecticut

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continued her sublime WNBA debut by setting a new rookie record on Wednesday against the Connecticut Sun.

The 22-year-old led the Fever to an 84-80 win against Connecticut, scoring 19 points that night.

Clark’s catch included her 86th three-pointer of her opening season in the WNBA, breaking the rookie record set in 2022 by Rhyne Howard with the Atlanta Dream.

While Howard made her record 85 three-pointers in a 34-game regular season, Clark scored her 86th in her 31st game.

It’s the latest in a string of record-breaking performances by Clark during her opening campaign in the WNBA.

Clark leads the WNBA in three-pointers made this season, with her total reaching 88 during the win over Connecticut.

She already sets a single-season rookie record for assists (224) and has more assists and more turnovers than any other player in the league this season.

Clark was selected first overall by the Fever in 2024 after breaking multiple records while attending the University of Iowa.

In 2023, Clark broke Pete Maravich’s 54-year-old record to become the all-time leading scorer in men’s and women’s college basketball with 3,951 points.

During her time at college, she averaged 28.4 points, 7.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists, contributing to the popularity of women’s basketball.

Nearly 19 million people watched Clark’s college team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, play in their 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association finals.
