Brian Barjenbruch, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Valley, said Wednesday a band of thunderstorms could develop in west and northwest of Omaha and push east toward northeast and south-central Nebraska into northern Iowa.

Thunderstorms are expected to be widespread but severe storms are not. A couple of storms could produce strong winds and hail. Lightning will be the primary threat, Barjenbruch said.

“The overall severe weather potential is low,” he said.

Storms could roll into the Omaha area during the early evening on Thursday. The storm threat caused several area schools to move up their football games from their scheduled 7 p.m. starts.
