Former Oregon Ducks coach Scott Frost hired by Los Angeles Rams

Scott Frost was a key part of the Oregon Ducks’ 2014 national championship run. He’s made a name for himself as a player and coach in college football, but is now making a career switch to the National Football League.

The Los Angeles Rams have announced the hiring of Frost as a senior football analyst. He will support the entire coaching staff and players in improving the day-to-day operations of the organization.

Frost started at the University of Oregon as the wide receivers coach from 2009-2012. Frost was then promoted to offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach for the Ducks, working alongside former head coach Mark Helfrich. The two worked side-by-side with 2014 Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.

Following his success in Eugene, Frost enjoyed a successful tenure at the University of Central Florida as head coach from 2016-17. He won an American Athletic Conference championship and was named the Associated Press College Football Coach of the Year with the Knights in 2017. After the experience he had building his resume in Orlando, it was time for him to return to his alma mater.

From 2018-2022 as Nebraska’s head coach, Frost finished with an overall coaching record of 16-31. He struggled to return to the winning ways of the once-prominent Lincoln program he was a part of as a player.

Frost was a redshirt quarterback for the 1995 national champion Cornhuskers and then the official man under center for the 1997 national championship team. He led the Huskers to a perfect 13-0 season as a dual threat through the air and on the ground. Frost is one of only 10 players in college football history to both pass and run for over 1,000 yards.

Back to where he is now, Frost will be exposed to his first taste of a front office role in the NFL with the Rams. He is familiar with what it was like on the other side as a player, having spent time with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1998-2003, primarily on special teams and the defensive end of the ball.

Given his background as a quarterback on the field and quarterbacks coach on the sidelines, Frost’s expertise will be more focused on working with two former Georgia Bulldogs Matthew Stafford and Stetson Bennett, as well as the suspended Jimmy Garoppolo for the Rams. A solid addition from head coach Sean McVay and the Los Angeles organization.
