Billy Bob Thornton stars in Taylor Sheridan Drama

Paramount+ has released the trailer for the new drama series “Landman” from “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan.

Based on Christian Wallace’s 2019 podcast “Boomtown,” the show follows Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, aka “Landman,” who serves as a peacekeeper and troubleshooter in the world of Texas oil rigs. Other cast members include Jon Hamm, Demi Moore, Michelle Randolph, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Jacob Lofland and Paulina Chávez.

The trailer shows Thornton tearing through the barren Texas landscape in a dusty white pickup truck, searching for something or someone that doesn’t belong. “The oil and gas industry makes $3 billion a day in pure profit,” Thornton says in a voiceover. “But before you make any of that money, you’ve got to secure the land and manage the people. That’s my job. The first part’s pretty easy. The second part can get you killed.”

This will mark Thornton’s first leading role in a television series since starring as Billy McBride in Amazon Prime’s crime drama “Goliath,” which concluded in 2021. “Mad Men” star Hamm comes to “Landman” fresh from his performance as antagonistic sheriff Roy Tillman in the fifth season of “Fargo.”

Sheridan’s previous western series, “Yellowstone,” though recently surrounded by controversy surrounding the departure of star Kevin Costner, has been one of Paramount’s most popular shows since its launch in 2018 on the Paramount Network. In 2023, the show was nominated for Best Drama Series at the Critics Choice Awards and Costner took home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series at the Golden Globes.

Michael Friedman is directing from scripts by Sheridan and Wallace. Executive producers include Friedman, Sheridan, Wallace, Scott Brown, Ron Burkle, Megan Creydt, Peter Feldman, David Glasser, Jason Hoch, David Hutkin, Geyer Kosinski, JK Nickell, Bob Yari and Dan Friedkin. 101 Studios, MTV Entertainment Studios and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions are producing.

“Landman” is out November 17th. Watch the trailer below.
