Game notes

  • The Boston Bruins welcome the Los Angeles Kings to the TD Garden for a matinee this afternoon! It will be a while before the B’s see them again until they head west in March.
  • Despite Thursday’s win, the B’s will still look to clear the net and sharpen their defensive play.
  • The Kings opened their season Thursday by beating the Buffalo Sabers 3-1 with Anze Kopitar’s natural hat trick in the third period. They’re on a seven-game road trip to get things going.
  • During yesterday’s training there were only minor adjustments to the lines and defensive combinations. As Matt Poitras nears his return, he centered Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau, leaving Riley Tufte as an extra body.
  • Jim Montgomery said Poitras is a possibility this afternoon, but he wouldn’t completely rule him in the lineup. Poitras has not played a league match since January 25. He last played in preseason on October 1 but has since been out due to injury.
  • On defense, Mason Lohrei and Andrew Peeke completed the bottom duo. Lohrei traded places with Parker Wotherspoon, who played alongside Peeke during Thursday’s game.
  • It is clearly still a very young season, but of the ten goals, the Pavel Zacha – Elias Lindholm – David Pastrnak line has four. Together they have nine points. Montgomery said after the last game that he is starting to see the impact E. Lindholm can make on the line by winning puck battles and creating space.
  • I can’t imagine there being a special goalie rotation this year and I see Jeremy Swayman starting this afternoon.
  • See you soon!
