Jets guard Xavier Newman suffered a serious neck injury during Sunday night’s game in Pittsburgh, but after the game the team said he had been cleared to leave the hospital.

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said after the game that Newman was OK.

‘Thank God, his tests were negative, he is traveling back with the team. A huge relief because of that,” said Ulbrich.

Newman suffered the injury in a collision with Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen and lay on the ground, motionless, for several minutes while medical personnel attended to him. He was placed on a stretcher and taken to a hospital in Pittsburgh.

There is no word yet on when Newman will be allowed to play again, but the fact that he was released from hospital within hours is considered very good news.
