We should have several record temperatures today, but how long will the heat last?

Yesterday, October 20, saw some record high temperatures in Michigan. Traverse City and Pellston had the two official record temperatures. Traverse City warmed to 79 degrees and Pellston to 77 degrees on Sunday afternoon. That’s a very hot day for the city that prides itself on being the “Fridge of Michigan.”

Today will likely be the peak of hot temperatures over Michigan, with many of us reaching 80 degrees this afternoon. There have been some extreme previous record temperatures since a very hot October 21, 1953. Because the extreme record highs in Lower Michigan are around 85 degrees, some of us will miss an official record by a few degrees.
