It’s time for Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany to drop the hammer

Bayern Munich’s winning streak against Barcelona is over as Bayern suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat in the Champions League on Wednesday evening. Bayern had not conceded four goals in regulation of a Champions League match since a demoralizing 4-0 semi-final defeat to Real Madrid in 2014.

After winning the first seven games of the season, Bayern has won just once in the last five games. The talent level of the opposition has increased significantly and Bayern have not responded in kind.

“We lost and it is a clear defeat,” Vincent Kompany said afterwards (as recorded by @iMiaSanMia). “Now is not the time to immediately make a major analysis. We sit down together, analyze the game and then move on. The first half, the first 30 minutes, apart from their early goal, I felt like we could win the game. But then the game changed with the second and third goals. We analyze, learn from this and improve. This defeat is not decisive for the season. We will look at the dip in form between the first and second half and work to improve that.”

BFW analysis

Hopefully Kompany is just protecting his players from the media and has devious plans to ruthlessly ride them until the ship is righted again.

When everyone was healthy and everything went smoothly, Kompany’s calm approach had an effect. However, the team does not play with the focus, determination and ability needed to win matches against opponents at the highest level. Bayern look like a second-rate club eager to be invited to the party.

It is the manager’s job to get the best out of his players, and that is currently lacking at Bayern.
