The game between ASU football and Oklahoma State will resume after a weather delay

The ASU football game against Oklahoma State will resume at approximately 5:00 PM MST after a weather delay due to lightning in the area.

It was announced that the players will return to the field at 4:30 PM MST for another round of warm-ups.

The game is scheduled to continue on FOX in Oklahoma and Arizona (FOX 10 in Phoenix) and on FS1 and FS2 outside of the game’s local markets.

The game was moved up from a 4:00 PM MST kickoff to a 12:30 PM kickoff in an attempt to beat the lightning and thunderstorms, but the game in Stillwater, Oklahoma, was suspended at halftime with ASU leading 21–14.

Boone Pickens Stadium was cleared as a precaution and the scoreboard read: “There are thunderstorms with lightning in the area and we are suspending play until further notice. If you are in open-air seating, please move quietly to the area below the stadium seating.” at this time.”

What NCAA says about weather delays

The NCAA’s lightning safety rules state: “To resume athletic activities, lightning safety experts recommend waiting 30 minutes after both the last sound of thunder and after the last flash of lightning is at least six miles away, and moving away from the location. seen without hearing thunder, lightning may be out of reach and therefore less likely to pose a significant threat.

“Please note that lightning can be visible at a much greater distance at night than during the day because clouds are illuminated from within by lightning. This greater distance may mean that lightning is no longer a significant threat. At night, use both sound and of thunder like seeing the lightning itself to decide when to reset the 30-minute return-to-play clock before resuming outdoor athletic activities.

The early debate between ASU and Oklahoma State is now a moot point

There had been some discussion on social media about how the ASU-Oklahoma State game could be called for ASU due to the inclement weather, with one interpretation of Big 12 rules saying that ASU would win because two quarters had been played and the Sun Devils were up. 21-14.

But not everyone agreed. The wording says that “when more than half” of the game is completed. ASU and Oklahoma State had played one half, no more than half of their game.

However, the debate is now a moot point as the two teams will resume play.
