Former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin has been selected to join President-elect Trump’s administration as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Trump confirmed the news in a statement on Monday afternoon and wrote:

“Lee, with a very strong legal background, has been a true fighter for America First policies. He will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be made in a way that will unleash the power of corporate America, while at the same time preserving the power of corporate America. He will set new standards for environmental assessment and maintenance, allowing the United States to grow in a healthy and well-structured manner.

Trump said Zeldin had “brilliantly” handled a number of “extremely difficult and complex situations.” He said he is confident Zeldin “will quickly prove to be a great contributor!”
