Matt Eberflus: The decision to fire Shane Waldron was made intentionally and respectfully

Officially the bears announced the shooting from offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday morning.

Waldron was hired this offseason after the Bears fired Luke Getsy — who has since been hired and fired by the Raiders — in hopes he would help the offense get going with Caleb Williams at quarterback. However, that didn’t happen and the Bears pulled the plug on Waldron after two consecutive losses that occurred without the team scoring a touchdown.

Thomas Brown now becomes the third offensive coordinator of Matt Eberflus’ tenure as head coach and Eberflus released a statement about the move as part of the official announcement.

“After evaluating our entire operation, I determined it was in the best interest of our team to take the leadership of our offense in a different direction. This decision was well thought out, a decision that was made purposefully and respectfully,” said Eberflus. “I would like to thank Shane for his efforts and wish him the best for the future. Thomas is a smart, offensive mind who has experience running plays with a collaborative mentality. I look forward to his leadership of our offensive coaching staff and his plan for our players.”

With the Bears already past their bye week, Eberflus will need Brown to hit the ground running and show immediate results to make something of the season. If that doesn’t happen, it seems unlikely Eberflus will be involved in decisions about the Bears’ direction in 2025.
