Chris Wallace lists DC home for $6.4 million

Veteran broadcaster Chris Wallace is saying goodbye to his place in Washington DC as he puts his stately home in the Kalorama neighborhood on the market for $6.4 million.

The CNN host, who announced his departure from the news network on Tuesday, is now also relinquishing the 1929 Georgian Revival mansion that he and his wife, Lorraine, have called home since purchasing it for $1.1 million in 1997 – the same year they got together. the decision has been made, reports the Wall Street Journal.

(On Friday, however, Puck News reported that Wallace was the first network star to be fired from CNN, as the network faces layoffs after low ratings on Election Day. He was reportedly offered an analyst role for much less than his $1 salary 7 million. and turned it down.)

Spanning approximately 7,000 square feet, the home is steeped in history, with four bedrooms, a grand entryway with classical columns, and formal rooms tailor-made for entertaining Washington’s elite.

Wallace, who previously helmed “Fox News Sunday,” fondly recalls hosting high-profile figures including the late Sen. Ted Kennedy and Justice Antonin Scalia. Hollywood actor George Clooney, who considers Wallace a friend, also drank wine at the property.

The couple plans to make their estate in Annapolis, Maryland, their primary residence, where Lorraine operates a small business that supplies fresh produce to local eateries.

However, they will maintain a smaller home in DC.

Reflecting on the neighborhood, Wallace remarked on Kalorama’s unique mix of power players across the political spectrum, with even Michelle Obama spotted on dog walks.

“Whatever the political differences, or the feelings about what someone said about someone else on television, we are neighbors in Kalorama,” he told the Journal.

Designed for both elegance and comfort, the house features a large living room with a bay window and an 18th-century marble mantelpiece.

The second floor is more private and offers bedrooms and a cozy office, while the lower level is equipped with a gym and guest suite.

Wallace said: “I would go out with my sons on the weekends and play football in the street.”

The Wallaces have made minimal changes over the years, the most significant being a kitchen renovation that saw Lorraine, a cookbook author, hone her recipes.

“I was a very happy guinea pig,” Wallace joked.

During his departure announcement, Wallace said he wanted to move from cable news to podcasting and streaming opportunities.

He joined CNN in 2021 to work on CNN+, a platform that closed shortly after launch. He then hosted two shows on the main network.

“CNN was very good to me… but (cable) was never what I signed up for,” he said.
