First quarter

The Rams won the coin toss and deferred, allowing Drake Maye and the Patriots offense to get on the field first on a 46-yard return from Javon Baker. A pair of completions for Kendrick Bourne and Hunter Henry picked up a first down before a chop block penalty on Rhamondre Stevenson moved the operation back 15 yards. An 11-yard run around the back helped set up a 3rd-and-13, with Maye’s pass going out of the hands of Kayshon Boutte. New England then punted.

Los Angeles’ first offensive drive of the game started on their own 12-yard line, but immediately found some breathing room with a 38-yard catch-and-run by Puka Nacua. The Rams drive then stalled, as Matthew Stafford’s third down pass to Cooper Kupp was incomplete.

New England’s second drive started with a 45-foot screen to DeMario Douglas. On 3rd and 7, Maye passed back to Douglas, who was open over the middle after giving birth in a huddle, for another 28 yards. A screen to Austin Hooper then picked up 18 yards inside the red zone, which later led to two plays when Maye found Bourne in the end zone for a 10-yard score. (Patriots 7:0 Rams)

An 18-yard run by Kyren Williams put the Rams offense on its way. Facing a 3rd-and-4 just above midfield, a stunt nearly brought Christian Elliss home, but the pressure still helped force an incompletion.

Second quarter

Back with the ball inside their 20, a 14-yard completion to Henry got things going for New England. After a short run from Gibson, Maye stepped into the pocket and found Bourne, who took the ball another 18 meters above midfield. Three consecutive runs from Gibson set the chains in motion again before New England faced a 3rd and 7. Maye rolled right and came across the middle back to Henry for 17 yards – but an illegal formation on Vederian Lowe canceled out the play. On 3rd and 12, a quick slant to Douglas would have resulted in a DPI, but the ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage. New England then punted from their own 42 after an intentional stoppage of play.

Stafford hit Nacua for a 25-yard gain on the Rams’ first play before moving the chains again with a 10-yard completion to Demarcus Robinson. Rookie back Blake Corum then got things going with three consecutive 21-yard runs until Nacua put them at the five-yard line. Two plays later, a rollout right resulted in a wide-open Cooper Kupp for a touchdown. (Patriots 7:7 Rams)
