Bowen Yang Reveals His Dream Host(s) for ‘Saturday Night Live’

Cher And Kelly Clarkson pulls double duty Saturday evening live? Count in Bowen Yang (and us).

Appears on The Kelly Clarkson Showhas seen the old player take over Studio 8H over the years, both experienced and new hosts. But there is one powerful singer – or rather, two – who is at the top of his wish list.

“Well, my white whale has always been Cher,” says the Bad said actor.

Clarkson agreed: “She’s hilarious!” (Like her interviews over the years and recently Chicken shop date appearance is an indication, we agree with that. Although Cher has been a point of reference, parody and impersonation throughout her legendary and award-winning singing and acting career, she has never hosted the NBC sketch comedy show. In 1987, she was a musical guest alongside host Candice Bergen and made a cameo appearance in a 1992 episode with host Nicolas Cage and musical guest Bobby Brown.)

Yang continued, “She’s so funny! And since you two have a single coming out, I have a feeling you and Cher coming together would blow my mind, referencing the duo’s “DJ Play a Christmas Song” — originally the “Believe” singer’s lead song from her 2023 Christmas album. , which was finally remixed earlier this month with Clarkson following her several covers of it.

“I love that song so much,” said the “Since U Been Gone” singer. “I was so much her street team, I think she felt obligated to ask me. I sang it everywhere! I’m such a big fan of that song but we released the dance remix version but she let me sing on it and it was a dream come true. So I understand your Cher scenario.

When Yang said that his dream would only come true if Clarkson joined Cher, she replied, “When Cher comes on, I just want to be the person who randomly walks in the back every now and then,” which the Fire island actor vehemently refused: “No, Kelly!”

The Grammy winner demurred, saying Cher’s Oscar-winning acting status makes her an appropriate candidate and was shocked she hasn’t served as host before.

‘She’s never done it before. Look, she can do every part Westside storyyou know? Do you remember that?” Yang replied, referencing an oft-forgotten piece of Cher lore, in which the multi-hyphenate sings and dances to a 12-minute medley of the musical’s songs, depicting both male and female characters, as part of her 1978 self-titled ABC special.
