2024 Elections: Harris Campaigns in Texas While Trump Heads to Michigan

Several Republican volunteers in one of Ohio’s most critical swing districts spoke about what issues matter most to them and why they believe former President Trump will continue his recent success in the swing state.

“What really motivates me is listening to all these things going on in our country, with the economy, where inflation is really bad and our wages have been eroded 20% in the last four years,” said Charlie Pengov, a lifelong resident from Toledo. volunteering for GOP House candidate Derek Merrin told Fox News Digital. “So instead I learned that if you’re worried about this stuff, you need to get involved and do something.”

Although Ohio’s long history as a swing state has recently eroded after former President Trump won the state by 8 points in 2020 and is expected to do even better in 2024, the race between Merrin and incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur in Toledo is in the state of Ohio. 9th Congressional District, which is considered a key swing district.

“The biggest thing I hear from family members is the economy, which is number one,” Pengov said. “Inflation has stolen someone’s life savings, or even, you know, sometimes it’s even difficult for some people to buy groceries from week to week. You know, that’s just really the biggest problem.”

“Definitely the economy,” Kelly, a Merrin volunteer who was born and raised in Toledo before moving to Arizona to escape “Democratic policies,” told Fox News Digital.

“Things like groceries, food prices, gas prices, housing, everything has gone up so much in the last few years and it’s really becoming unaffordable for everyone.”
