49ers news: Immediate reaction to the 36-24 win over the Seahawks

The San Francisco 49ers pulled off a nice rebound win in Week 6, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 36-24 to improve to 3-3 on the season, including 1-2 in division play.

With the win, the 49ers currently sit atop the NFC West and are finally on the board with a division win, which was a serious necessity after San Francisco lost close games to both the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals.

It was a game where San Francisco shot out to an early lead but could never really get to the kill shot early, making it a competitive game as the second half progressed. Nevertheless, the 49ers finished strong and ended up on top here.

Here’s our immediate reaction to the 49ers’ 36-24 win over the Seahawks.

Offence

Offensively, this game had an interesting atmosphere as the 49ers were able to make good runs on four different drives in the first half, including a 76-yard touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Deebo Samuel.

However, on the other three drives, the 49ers were inside Seattle’s 25-yard line and failed to score a touchdown on any of these possessions, with the red zone battle resurfacing.

More interestingly, the 49ers had an odd touch distribution when entering the red zone, as George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk got zero of the first half touches (six total), with San Francisco being forced to make field goals at the 7, 17 in Seattle. and 23-yard lines.

Still, they led 16-3 at halftime and had a big chance when they scored a touchdown to open the second half. Finally they saw some success in the red zone when Brock Purdy found George Kittle with a nice dime for the 10-yard score. giving San Francisco a sizable 20-point lead.

But then the offense stalled with three consecutive punts, the last of which came at Seattle’s 40-yard line, allowing Geno Smith and the Seahawks to find their way back with a touchdown drive after Laviska Shenault returned a punt 97 yards for a score.

Suddenly it was 23-17, with the 49ers needing an answer offensively to avoid a third straight divisional meltdown in the second half.

Well, in the end they got the job done, taking advantage of a Smith interception with another George Kittle touchdown before Isaac Guerendo and Kyle Juszczyk added the finishing touches for the two-score victory at the end.

It was a solid effort by San Francisco, as Brock Purdy threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns, while Jordan Mason had 73 yards on just nine carries before suffering a shoulder injury.

Defense

The defense was the unit that really stood out on Thursday, as it was a mix of stars emerging, as well as younger talent emerging due to injuries.

The 49ers did not have Charvarius Ward, Jordan Elliott and Talanoa Hufanga in the game, which marked some big changes with several rookies seeing significant action, and it worked in San Francisco’s favor.

Malik Mustapha and Renardo Green both made plays and recorded crucial interceptions that killed the momentum for the Seahawks, the latter giving San Francisco’s two-score lead in the fourth quarter.

Plus, the 49ers showed off the stars as Nick Bosa had a whopping 14 pressures, serving as a one-man wrecking crew and making his impact known even without a sack.

Fred Warner led the team with 11 tackles, while breaking up another pass that he almost intercepted in a strong performance from the captain.

It was a multi-faceted effort, as the 49ers completely neutralized the rushing attack despite being a clear focus for Seattle entering the week, and softened the impact through the air by taking away DK Metcalf, leading to an inefficient performance by quarterback Geno Smith. .

Overall, the defense stepped up significantly when the team needed it, and that was the main reason for Thursday’s win.
