18-year-old from Omaha struck and killed in Nebraska City

Early Tuesday morning, an 18-year-old from Omaha was struck and killed by a vehicle at a major highway interchange in Nebraska City.

Harrell Jackson Jr. was reportedly walking on Highway 2 near Highway 75 when he was struck.

Authorities found Jackson Jr. and tried to take life-saving measures against him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A report shows he was wearing dark-colored clothing at the time of the incident.

The Otoe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Omaha police are investigating a crash in Midtown

OPD is asking for the public’s help in searching for the suspect vehicle in a Monday afternoon crash in Midtown.

The suspect vehicle is a dark green 2000 or 2001 Eddie Bauer Edition Ford Expedition.

A pedestrian was reportedly struck near 40th Street and Cuming Street just before 3:30 p.m.

Officers discovered the pedestrian was crossing an intersection “controlled by a traffic light with a marked crosswalk” when they were struck by the Ford Expedition heading west.

OPD says the driver failed to stop. The victim was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Omaha woman is due in court in connection with an animal neglect case

An Omaha woman will appear in court Wednesday charged with animal cruelty causing injury or death – a Class IV felony.

Sherry Dale, 60, was arrested Monday in connection with the condition of a Pitbull named “Choppa.”

Humane Society officers noted that “Choppa” was severely emaciated and lethargic. Due to the severity of his illness he had to be put down.

A necropsy report came back showing evidence of severe malnutrition.

Her court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m

Omaha City Council fails to overturn mayor’s veto on building codes

Mayor Jean Stothert’s veto of the City Council’s decision to update Omaha’s electrical code still stands. An attempt to override the veto during Tuesday’s council meeting failed.

With the proposed updates, Stothert argues that the regulations would add “unjustified costs” to affordable housing.

Supporters of the regulations say cost should not matter when it comes to taking safety measures.

Council members agreed to add 56 affordable housing units downtown, near the Flatiron Apartments.

Heartland of America Christmas tree coming to RiverFront

Crews from the Omaha Riverfront work Wednesday to set up the Heartland of America Christmas tree.

8th St. near the will be closed Wednesday through Friday for the process as they bring in a large crane.

The RiverFront will be preparing their ice rink, with plans for an upcoming opening party.

Holiday lights are also being set up in the area this week.

Open house held for the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant

There will be an open house Wednesday for the former Nebraska Ordnance Plant in Mead.

The event will take place at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Country Club in Yutan.

A presentation on the 2023 containment assessment will be given at 5 p.m

The US Army Corps of Engineer will interpret water sample results as well as other site data.

The event starts at 4:30 PM and lasts until 7:00 PM. A press release states that it is open to the public.
