A severe heat wave is hitting Southern California starting Tuesday, but how hot will it get?

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A powerful heat wave is set to hit Southern California starting Tuesday, with temperatures topping 90 degrees Fahrenheit in many areas.

How hot does it get?

An extreme heat warning has been issued for the period from Tuesday to Friday. This warning applies to much of the region, with the exception of the coastline.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to rise by several degrees each day, creating dangerous heat. (in the middle of the week) in most places except the beaches.

Expect more people on SoCal beaches this week as many look for ways to beat the heat. ABC7’s Eric Resendiz shows you what to expect in the video above.

Days are also warming up in the valleys, with the Antelope Valley already seeing triple-digit highs. The Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys are also set to top 100 degrees starting Tuesday, and the San Gabriel Valley starting Thursday.

Temperatures will also rise at night. In the valleys, temperatures will remain around 21 degrees in the last part of the week and until next weekend.

Orange County will also feel the heat, with temperatures in Anaheim rising to around 93 degrees on Wednesday.

Increased risk of fire

The warm, dry weather will also create more fire conditions in the mountains, valleys and deserts throughout the week.

Health officials reminded people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun and be aware of family members and neighbors. They also advised not to leave young children or pets unattended in vehicles, where temperatures can reach lethal levels in minutes.

Extreme heat in the southwest

ABC News reports that 28 million Americans are under a heat warning in southwestern California, Nevada and Arizona.

An extreme heat warning is in effect for cities including Las Vegas, Phoenix, Fresno and Bakersfield from Wednesday through Friday, where temperatures could reach 95 to 110 degrees. This warning will be upgraded to a heat watch or an extreme heat warning in the coming day.
