A shelter has been ordered at the FDU Florham campus in Madison

A shelter-in-place order is in effect Wednesday evening at the Fairleigh Dickinson University Florham campus in Madison amid reports of a person with a gun, the school announced.

FDU also announced that both New Jersey campuses will be remote on Thursday. “By Thursday, November 21, both NJ campuses will operate remotely. Essential personnel are expected to remain on campus. All Florham activities on campus are canceled,” the school announced just after midnight.

At 10:45 p.m., FDU tweeted: “Police are investigating an incident on Florham Campus.”

At 10:59 p.m., the school announced that a shelter in place was in place, adding: “Stay inside the building, away from windows and doors. If outside, seek shelter immediately. Remain in place until a complete clear message is sent through the FDU warning system.”

At 11:29 p.m., FDU stated that the shelter remains in place and that “police are on patrol looking for an individual who may be in possession of a weapon.”

At 12:29 p.m., FDU posted: “The shelter in place at the Florham Campus continues. Local police continue to patrol the campus looking for an individual who may be in possession of a weapon. No shots are being fired. Further updates will follow as new information becomes known.”
