Aaron Judge sends Yankee Stadium into a frenzy after hitting a huge grand slam against Red Sox

Aaron Judge got Yankee Stadium going Friday night with a single swing of the bat.

The Yankee captain and former MVP came in with the bases loaded and no one in the bottom of the seventh inning, with the Yankees trailing the Boston Red Sox 4-1.

Then Judge hit a 2-0 pitch to deep right field for the kind of home run that the crowd knows is gone before it leaves the infield. It gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead. The Yankees held on to win, taking the first two games of the series against Boston and extending their lead in the AL East over the Baltimore Orioles by three games.

The crowd at Yankee Stadium erupted in the loudest cheers of the year as fans celebrated their star player’s big moment against their hated rival.

For Judge, the grand slam broke one of his rare home run droughts. Prior to Friday night’s game, Judge had gone 16 straight games without a home run, the longest stretch of his career without a home run. It was a stretch that came amid what was arguably Judge’s best batting season to date.

With the grand slam in hand, Judge collected his 52nd home run of the season, improving his average to .321 with an OPS of 1.143 and 130 RBI.

But before Friday, after hitting two home runs against the Colorado Rockies On August 26, the six-time All-Star is hitting .204 (11-for-54) with 22 strikeouts in his net 15 games.

The longest home run streak of Judge’s career came during his rookie season, when he sat out 15 games between August 17 and September 2, 2017.

Before his current drought, Judge had been playing at a breakneck pace, hitting nine home runs in 10 previous games. People wondered if he had a shot at breaking his own American League record for most home runs in a season, which he set in 2022 with 62.

Still Judge is currently in contention to win his second American League MVP award in three years.
