Alabama vs. Oklahoma: 2nd half open discussion

Alabama in no way, shape, or form deserves to be playing for any type of postseason accolades. The first half of this game was one of the worst performances I’ve seen in a long time. The game plan was awful, the players were unfocused and virtually no one did anything useful.

For some reason, the Tide decided that using QB power over and over was the only play in their offensive playbook, and it gave them about -12 yards on 10 carries, once you factor in the holding call on the last give-up campaign. This is despite the fact that Oklahoma’s defense has shut down multiple rushing QBs this season while vulnerable to passing downfield.

Meanwhile, the Sooners just let QB run outside the tackle and kick throughout the half and move the ball pretty much at will without having to attempt the forward pass. Maligned QB Jackson Arnold nearly doubled his season rushing yardage in one half, and Alabama’s defense was absolutely baffled at how to stop QB runs.

Oh, and gambler James Burnip decided this was a good time to play the worst game of his life.

Luckily, Oklahoma dropped a wide-open TD pass, missed an easy field goal and also fumbled in the redzone, otherwise it would now be 21-3.

Just unconscionably bad from the entire Alabama program, and unless they really turn it around in the second half, this is the end of the season.
