Security services successfully stormed a prison in Volgograd, where several inmates had attacked guards and taken hostages earlier on Friday, the Russian National Guard confirmed. All terrorists were killed and all hostages were released.

According to WarGonzo, a Telegram channel, one of the hostages was wearing a suicide belt that did not go off. It is still unclear whether the belt was real.

The identity of the attackers has been confirmed, media reports claim, citing court records. One of the four suspects was jailed for murder, while the other three were convicted of drug trafficking. The suspects are believed to be from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

“Snipers from the special forces of the Russian National Guard in the Volgograd region have eliminated four prisoners who had taken prisoner officers hostage with four accurate shots,” the service said in a statement.
