Almost record heat ahead

Rochester, NY (WHAM) – Get ready for more big swings in the temperature department in the coming days.

Temperatures in Rochester have been slightly cooler than normal in recent days. We’ve had five straight days of high temperatures in the 50s.

It appears that this trend will reverse in the coming days. We could see near record warm temperatures this week on Wednesday and Thursday.

Here’s a look at how the weather story will unfold late this week.

A warm front approaches the region on Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening.

The front will bring some showers. Even thunder is possible on Tuesday afternoon. Any showers will clear up quickly by mid to late evening tomorrow.

As this front moves through WNY tomorrow evening, temperatures will start to rise quickly. Here’s a look at the expected high temperature for the next few days.

The record high for Wednesday is 78 degrees and dates back to 1946. The record high for Halloween next Thursday is 80 degrees and dates back to 1971. We will be close to record highs for both days.

The early outlook for our little ghosts and ghouls for Thursday evening will be for temperatures in the low 70s around 6 p.m. The chance of rain showers will slowly increase for trick-or-treaters until Thursday evening.

The rain will mean another change in the weather as a cold front moves through WNY. It looks like this warm-up ends on Friday.

We will see temperatures drop substantially. Expect high temperatures in the low 50s on Friday and Saturday.

In case you’re curious, the long-term temperature projection through November remains above normal temperatures in the Great Lakes and New England. Here’s a look at the 8 to 14 day temperature outlook from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC).
