Anyone who has stood in line at an airport departure gate and waited patiently for his/her zone to be called has probably seen a scenario in which someone tries to get ahead and board the plane before his or her group has been called.

Now American Airlines has become the first airline to test a new technology that could help tackle passengers trying to cross the border.

The technology would give gate agents an audible signal when someone tries to board early, prompting that passenger to step aside and wait for the appropriate group to be called.

“We are in the early stages of testing new technology used during the onboarding process, designed to ensure easy priority boarding for customers and improve the onboarding experience by providing greater visibility,” a representative from the airline told ABC News.

The technology is currently being tested at three US airports: Albuquerque International, Tucson International Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The airline told ABC News it is pleased with the results of the testing and technology so far.
