American rapper Rich Homie Quan, 33, dies in Atlanta | Ents & Arts News

American rapper Rich Homie Quan, one of the biggest hip-hop names of the mid-2010s, has died at the age of 33.

Homie Quan, real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died at an Atlanta hospital, the Fulton County coroner said.

The cause of death is not yet known; an autopsy will take place on Friday.

Quan made his music breakthrough in 2013 with “Type Of Way,” a track so successful that several other rappers picked up the remix, including Jeezy and Meek Mill.

He continued his momentum by appearing on a YG track featuring Jeezy and releasing “Lifestyle,” a track produced by London on da Track, via his Rich Gang rap collective which also featured Young Thug and Birdman.

Quan followed with Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh), a track produced by DJ Spinz and Nitti Beatz.

It became his highest-charting solo single, peaking at No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was also featured on Lil Dicky’s Save Dat Money.

In 2018, Quan released his debut and only studio album, Rich As In Spirit, which contained virtually no extras aside from Think About It, a single featuring Rick Ross.

Quan spoke in 2022 about his return to music after an abrupt hiatus.

The rapper said at the time that he was in a lawsuit with independent record label TIG (Think It’s a Game Record), but that he was willing to make a comeback.

At the time, Quan was in conflict with his old associate Young Thug. Along with rapper Gunna, he was part of a group that was charged with conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. They were also accused of being part of a criminal street gang.

Quan said there were no issues between him and Young Thug and that he was open to talking to him if the opportunity arose.

He said he hated to see Young Thug in jail and added that rappers are a target for law enforcement.

“I wouldn’t say they’ve been treated unfairly because at the same time, some rappers are using guns in their videos. And you know, it’s like social media, it goes back to social media,” he said.

“I think we show too much, and I think they show too much.

“That’s the difference with my music: I’m telling a story, but I’m not going to tell you how I did it,” he added.

“It’s still black art, but we’re definitely under attack. That’s why I’m aware of what I say in my music.”
